34 Million Defective Airbags
Personal Injury Lawyer | Japanese airbag manufacturer Takata has just announced that the initial recall of exploding airbags has been expanded to nearly 34 million vehicles. This makes the current situation one of the largest consumer products recalls of all time. ABC News Channel 10 reports that about one in seven cars on the road are being impacted by this recall. The airbags in question could inappropriately deploy and explode, sending shrapnel at the face, neck and chest region of drivers and passengers in impacted cars. At this time, six deaths are being attributed to the exploding airbags with many more injuries being reported.
Holding Automakers Accountable
Last year, we saw record-breaking recalls on vehicles across the country. Although we’re only partially through 2015, it looks like this year could give 2014 a run for its money. Unfortunately, federal safety regulatory agencies have gone way too easy on automobile manufacturers in the past. If consumers are to be made safe, automakers have to be held accountable for dangerous faulty and defective parts. Listed below are some of the automobile makes being recalled due to the dangerous Takata airbags.
Vehicles Manufactured With Takata Airbags
- BMW
- Chrysler
- Daimler Trucks
- Ford
- General Motors
- Honda

Is Your Vehicle Under Recall?
If you’re not sure if your vehicle is under recall, you can use Safercar.gov’s website to find out. All you need to do is get your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). This is usually found on the dashboard of your car. Plug the VIN into Safercar.gov’s VIN Search Tool to find out if your car is currently being recalled for any reason. If your vehicle is under recall, immediately call a dealership for further instructions. These airbags are in a wide variety of makes and models and it could take weeks or longer to get your car fixed.
